I started spending more time with oil paint because I wanted to change subject matter and explore a new medium. Oil is an incredible diverse medium which gives an artist a huge range of possibilities due to its translucency or opaqueness and long drying time. I have found that gazing into the stain after I cover the canvas with random paint turns on my subconscious. I see bits and pieces of scenes and slowly build these images up. My art work has always been dreamy, color rich and ethereal. I like to present the human figure as a wonder of beauty, whether they are beautiful or oddly interesting to look at. Hopefully my art gives the viewer a chance to contemplate their own life and experiences.
Color is important element in my art, as well as narrative and my emotion. The viewer sees the stories in my paintings. I use color to create line, shape, form and emotional content.
My original thought when I started my college education was to be a sculptor but over the years I realized drawing is more my core. I do see and feel a sculpture element in my work. The illusion and three dimensional element in my art touches the psyche . We all want to be taken away and be catapulted into another dimension freed from the limits of our bodies. I hope my art hints at the "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?"
